Empirical research has repeatedly proven that community notification is ineffective at increasing community safety but rather it excels at increasing collateral and direct damage to former offenders and their families, which is increasing daily as citizens use the sex offender websites as hit lists for vigilante actions against offenders , their families, friends and employers. Also legislators are increasingly abusing their power by creating laws, which often violate the Constitution, that are based not on empirical research or sound logic but on emotion, opinion, hysteria and what is popular and most likely to get them reelected. The second reason they provide as rationale for implementing the registry is, “that efforts of law enforcement agencies to protect their communities, conduct investigations, and quickly apprehend sex offenders are impaired by the lack of available information about individuals”.
In all the years I have been forced to register I have never heard of any states registry being cited as the reason anyone was protected, or that any crime was prevented or solved because of a registry. The truth is law enforcement and anyone else that thinks the registry is useful in any way, shape, or form is a fool, because law enforcement is incapable of preventing any crime. To do that they would have to know what someone was thinking and that is impossible, regardless of what the witch doctors say. They are definitely a after the fact organization. The ONLY people that get anything out of the registry is those that work for our already overly top heavy government.
The purpose of the registry is twofold: money and reelection.
The only reason they exist in the clearly useless form that they currently exist in is to provide a boggy man at the local level just as the war on terror perpetuates the boggy man on a grand scale.
Keeps people frightened all of the time. Scared people are easily controlled people…especially when the government can twist this to make it appear that they are the only barrier protecting Joe Citizen and his family from these boggy men!
